

Bill Torbert holds
BA and PhD degrees from Yale. He has taught at Southern Methodist University, Harvard,
and Boston College, where he is now Professor Emeritus of leadership. An award-‐‑
winning teacher, international consultant, board member, and the author of a dozen
books, Bill currently serves as Principal of Action Inquiry Associates. His publications
include the national Alpha Sigma Nu award winning Managing the Corporate Dream (Dow
Jones-‐‑Irwin, 1987), the Terry Award Finalist The Power of Balance: Transforming Self, Society, and Scientific
Inquiry (Sage, 1991), and Action Inquiry: The Secret of Timely and Transforming Leadership
(Berrett-‐‑Koehler, 2004, now translated into Japanese
and in 2018 to be published in Spanish, Russian, and Chinese). In 2013 Bill received
the Center for Creative Leadership’s Lifetime Award for Applied Leadership Research,
and in 2014 the Chris Argyris Career Achievement Award for his work on Collaborative
Developmental Action Inquiry, an inclusive paradigm for both social science and
social action. In 2016, he published, with Hilary Bradbury, Eros/Power: Love in the Spirit of Inquiry.
